Bicycle Options and RentalsIf you're thinking about signing up with us, you can either rent a bike from us or bring your own Our tours are completely on-road (except some short drive ways) and we recommend road bikes. We require all bikes to have puncture-reinforced tires (such as kevlar) as road shoulders where we travel tend to have quite a bit of small debris that will make your life quite miserable if you do not have reinforced tires. Be aware that airlines often charge a handling fee for bicycles of $100-$300. Shipping, assembling and disassembling your bike usually costs a similar amount! The most cost-effective option is to rent a bicycle through us -- and we're also better able to help with any bike problems on the road if you rent from us! We include much of the needed equipment, and rent new-model hybrid bicycles Bikes usually come with a triple-chain ring on the front, straight handle bars, and road tires, as well as a patch kit and tire levers, extra tubes, a visibility flag, third eye mirror, and reflective vests.
Because we cater primarily to beginner and intermediate cyclists, we need to ensure that everyone has the right gear for the tour. If you choose to bring your own bike, please ensure it meets the following MANDATORY BICYCLE REQUIREMENTS:
--> Road/hybrid/touring bike - no mountain bikes, fixed gear or single speed bikes. --> No shocks on either front or rear wheel (no exceptions!). --> Kevlar-reinforced road/touring tires with least 75 PSI pressure. --> No visible rust anywhere on the bike --> Front and rear brakes are required --> Triple chain ring with at total of at least 21 speeds -- make sure you have appropriate hill-climbing gears. --> No bikes over 10 years old, regardless of condition.
